When to Book Christmas Light Installation in Wake Forest

Holiday light installers in the Raleigh area work a short, crowded season, roughly early October to mid January, and most customers want the same two weeks of it. This guide lays out the Wake Forest calendar month by month so you can decide when to request a quote and when to schedule the install. Wake Forest Christmas Lights is a referral service that passes quote requests to independent installers; the dates below are general patterns, not a promise about any company's availability.

September: quotes and design

The easy month. Installers are not yet on ladders, so they have time to visit, measure the roofline and talk through options. If you live in an HOA community, pull the holiday decoration rules from your covenants or management company now so you can give the installer your allowed dates. Boards that want an entrance or clubhouse lit should be requesting quotes, since the quote usually needs approval at a fall meeting.

October: calendars open

Installations begin in October, mostly commercial properties and homeowners who want a specific date locked in. Christmas Decor, a national franchise, says its popular installation appointments fill quickly and advises contacting the company early to secure the first slots. You can still get a quote after October, but you will be choosing from what is left rather than from the whole calendar.

November: the crunch

Thanksgiving week is the pressure point. Families want the house ready for guests, most HOA display windows open that week, and the weekend after Thanksgiving is the most requested install date of the year. Crews cannot be everywhere at once, so installers push work earlier into the month, and the week before Thanksgiving is the last realistic window for a new booking at many companies. Daylight adds to the squeeze: in Raleigh the sun sets at 5:19 p.m. on November 1 and 5:01 p.m. on November 30, so a two-story install that takes most of a day has to start early.

Install early and leave the lights dark

The practical answer is to have the lights installed in early or mid November and leave them off, or on a timer that does not start until the date you choose. The display looks the same on the night you turn it on, and you skip the busiest week. Check two things first: whether your HOA allows lights to be installed before the display window opens as long as they are off (most covenants regulate the display, not the hardware, but read yours), and whether the installer will set the timer for a future start date.

December: lit

The Lighting of Wake Forest is Friday, December 4, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Centennial Plaza on South Brooks Street, with the tree lighting and the arrival of Santa. If you want the house lit for that first weekend, have the install done by the last week of November. December installs still happen, but dates are scarce and some companies stop taking new residential work by the second week.

Weather: mild, wet, occasionally icy

Raleigh's average high falls from about 67°F at the start of November to 59°F at the end, and from 58°F to 52°F across December, with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s and about 2.7 to 2.8 inches of rain in each month. Rain, not cold, moves install dates: crews do not work wet roofs, and a late-November booking has little slack to absorb a lost day.

Ice comes after the lights are up. Central North Carolina's worst ice storm on record hit December 4 and 5, 2002, with up to an inch of ice around Raleigh and nearly a million people without power. Storms like that are rare, but a quarter inch of freezing rain happens some winters and can drop branches onto light runs. Ask whether storm damage is covered under the lease or billed as a service call.

January: takedown

Most companies remove lights in the first two weeks of January, in roughly the order they went up. If your HOA has a takedown deadline, confirm the date on your quote falls before it. Under a lease the installer stores the strands; under a customer-owned arrangement, ask whether the crew will coil and label them for you.

What to have ready before you request a quote

  • Your full address, so the request goes to an installer who covers your part of north Wake County or Franklin County.
  • Which elevations you want lit: front only, front and sides, or full perimeter. A photo of the house from the street helps.
  • Any extras: trees, shrubs, columns, wreaths, garland, walkway stakes.
  • Your HOA display window and takedown deadline, if you have one.
  • Where the exterior outlets are, and whether they are GFCI protected.
  • Whether you want to own the lights or lease them, if you have a preference.
  • A target date to be lit, and whether you are open to an earlier install with the lights left dark.

Send the form with that information and an independent installer will contact you with a quote. Requesting one is free and does not commit you to anything.
